So …I started working around 7:30 a.m., stopped to go to radiation and worked through until 6:30 p.m. That on top of freelance photography last evening, and I am TIRED. I haven’t even stopped for dinner yet.
So when I get home the phone rings. “Out of Area” says caller I.D., but I answer anyway.
Someone I do not know asking for me . I ask who it is, and she says she is so and so from The Breast Cancer Relief Foundation. She gives me a website I can check – www.breastcancerrelief.org . And oh she can send me information after I make my pledge.
REALLY???????????????
How did you get my name, address and phone number I ask. She then says stupidly, oh you come up on an auto-dialer for your phone number. So then you magically divine my name I ask.
No response for a moment and then she says she is just a telemarketer in an MCI call center or something like that.
RIIIGGGGHT-O ducky.
So then I decided to land on her after a little more pushing on her part. I said that she had balls to call a woman going through breast cancer treatment and all that financially entails and calling at dinner to ask me to give money. I further told her I believe in two breast cancer non-profits, Breastcancer.org and Living Beyond Breast Cancer.
Ok we’ll put you on the do not call list she says. Hope she does, because oh yes (sorry forgot to mention in my fit of breast cancer pique), this is not the first call from them since I got diagnosed and I never heard of them before this so someone boobalicious is selling deets of breast cancer gals.
What bullshit.
Interestingly enough there is a lot of negativity out there on the web about this bogus bullshit breast cancer fund gobbler BCRF.
So I am paying it forward – DO not give these people money. From what I read they spend more money on themselves then they do on women with breast cancer. And if someone is going to push you to make a donation when you just told them you are in treatment for breast cancer and paying for all that fun, well f*ck ’em.
So Annis D. Tarver, PhD, President of this BCRF? God don’t like ugly and I hope you remember that as you sit in your office making money off poor women going through treatment.
DON’T CALL ME AGAIN!
Ladies, if you get a call from these people, turn them down and even consider turning them in…to your state’s attorney general’s office if the contact persists – by the time you make a pledge to an outfit like this you might as well not. Check out your charities – and there are a lot of large and small charities devoted to breast cancer that are the real deal, so don’t waste your dollars with telemarketing charities.
BCRF are listed as being in New Orleans among other places and I am tempted to suggest everyone call them and ask the president for her home phone number so we can all call her at dinner time:

I would really like to repost your picture and share your story on my blog. My sister has breast cancer and this ‘organization’ started calling my mother after she donated to another breast cancer npo. They bullied my 85 year old mother into paying them not once, but twice.
sure Teresa – feel free – they give good charities a bad name as far as I am concerned
Similar experience for me.-Last night at 9:30PM A caller woke me up. A woman called asking for donation & then a “low voice speaking dude” came on to confirm that I will give them donation.I just received bad news about my Sis being diagnosed with Breast Ca, I was not feeling to good. I think that they try to take advantage of people in dispair. After thinking about it & reading all that info her.I rather give my Sis $1500 then to send them $15.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let us not forget the ripoff this charity has become. Not only will it’s now parent charity company not file paperwork with the Better Business Bureau for charities…they have done nothing but make companies rich that they most likely profit from. The vast majority of their fundraising monies go right back to the fund raising company. From 2002 to 2011, the companies fund raisers made them $63.9 million of which $44.7 million went right back to the for-profit fund raisers and only $1.4 million went to program recipients.
I took their phone call, received their mailing so I could get the info to look them up and then shredded the papers after finding out about how the Tavers have done nothing but become rich off the pain, suffering and charity of others. Hopefully Satan has a nice spot for that family when they go!
Very interesting the number you gave for their “office” is no longer in service! I believe they are in cahoots with another organization called United Breast Cancer foundation. We gave them a fake credit card number to see what would happen, and our credit card company said they tried first to get $30.00 under the United name, and since that was denied, they used the BCRF name and asked to get $25.00 on their second try. LOL. Then if that was not enought for them, they send pledge statements. Have you ever tried to call the listed numbers? I did on a friday night and a young male, who sounded high answers….swears I have the wrong number (not) and then puts it on voice mail, whose mailbox is full. These people are slime scam artists, who prey on the elderly and naive. Beware!
The two numbers that may be worth harassing are : BCRF: 866-393-3352 and
for United Breast cancer foundation : 877-UBC-4CURE. As of tonight it did ring through to either a person or an answering machine.
One more thing, they now apparently use another address as well:
BCRF

United Breast Cancer Foundation:

Thank you for posting your story. Hope you’re doing well. Got a call from these folks too – real hard sell with velvet gloves. Blocking them now.
I got a phone call today from a telemarketer. Asking for donations to help women with breast cancer. The women was very pushy. Wanted to know if I would donate $30.00 or $50.00. Said I would give $30.00 I’m on limited income. Then she transferred me to someone else. This women was more pushy than the first. Told her I wouldn’t give out my debit card on the phone. Told her to mail me info and I would donate. Kept insisting I do it over the phone it would be much easier. Asked her what organization she was affiliated with. She said United Breast Cancer Foundation. After this phone call ended I decided to do a little research on the web. Glad I did. They were listed as one of the worst scammers on some sites on the web. Love to help women with breast cancer or other charities. My mother was a breast cancer surviver. Lost her to pancreatic cancer years later. By the way hope you’re doing well now and may God bless you.
I got a call from the united breast cancer foundation P.O. box 967 novi, mi 48376 the woman that called me acted like she knew me. Telling me how hard I was to touch base with then she proceeded into her spiel about the women they help and would I like to donate. She started off asking for 30 then 50. I said that I would donate 30. She said that her supervisor would get on the line and confirm with me. The next woman asked me for my credit card I said I do not do donations on my credit card. I said mail it to me . She said that the women they were helping really needed the donation quickly. I said mail it. I received the envelope and the next day the calls started coming 4 or five a day. This has made me question why? I know I might change my mind. Well I have this is too much pressure to be real. Well I do not have to send money I am not obligated to them even though they confirmed this is not a contract. I will give this to someone I know that is going through a hard time not these shysters. You lie to me and I lie right back. SUE ME.
I wasn’t even diagnosed with breast cancer but they called asking for my mother in law I told them I was not her but they still proceeded to talk & ask for a donation & there was only 2 amounts you can choose from I hung up on them now I’m getting mail from them saying their waiting for their donation I’m not sending them a penny I’m glad I saw this & now know it’s a scam
My mother is also getting these call asking for money, she is 83 I have responded with 2 cease and desist letters. I hope I got my point across. Then low and behold we get another reminder letter and yet again I send another letter to stop. My mother is also on a limited income and can not pay for her medical or her prescription’s so why in the world would I/she donate.
